Professionals

The Healthy Hebridean Kids campaign is being run as an initial pilot for 2019/20 focusing on eight nurseries/sgoil araichs throughout the Western Isles.

These are Stornoway Primary Nursery, Sgoil Araich an Taobh Siar, Sgoil Araich Thunga, Sgoil Araich an Rubha, Sgoil Araich an Tairbeart, Sgoil Araich an Iochdair, Balivanich School Nursery and Castlebay School Nursery – and staff training will be offered at each setting on the new edition of ‘Setting the Table: Nutritional Guidelines’, which is expected in mid 2020.

In addition, the NHS Western Isles’ Department of Nutrition and Dietetics will also attend nurseries/sgoil araichs and deliver awareness sessions on the importance of healthy eating and lifestyle to families.

Referral Mechanisms

If you have a concern about a child you can refer them directly to the NHS Western Isles’ Department of Nutrition and Dietetics.   Please ensure that you have permission from the parent/guardian before making a referral.

  • NHS Staff – referrals should be made via SCI Gateway if possible
  • Parents/families can self refer (see self-referral section)

We will also accept referrals by letter – please aim to include as much detail as possible to ensure we triage children appropriately.

You can find out more information on the support we can provide families with in the Child Weight section of this website.

Referrals should be posted to: Department of Nutrition & Dietetics, Western Isles Hospital, Macaulay Road, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis HS1 2AF or emailed to wi.dietetics@nhs.scot
