Background

The Healthy Hebridean Kids campaign was originally meant to launch in March 2020 however due to covid we had to postpone it as staff got redeployed and many were working in very different ways.  In 2024 we are refreshing it however the aim remains the same – to help local families and carers of children be healthier and happier through healthy lifestyle choices.

What children eat and drink during their early years can influence their future habits, so by giving children living in the Outer Hebrides the best start in life, will help them live longer, healthier lives and reduce their risk of developing a range of health issues later in life.

The ‘Healthy Hebridean Kids’ campaign can offer useful advice and tips on the things parents, grandparents and carers can do to encourage healthy living habits with children. You may also receive specific information directly as all children around the age of 4/5 (when they are in Primary 1) are routinely offered health screenings by their Health Visitor. This comprises hearing checks and height and weight checks, following these checks you may find you need some support and hopefully the website can help. Healthy Hebridean Kids is hosted by the NHS Western Isles Maternal & Infant Nutrition Group (MIN), a partnership group whose members include CnES, Action for Children and other Community Groups, which aims to improve the health of parents, children and families.
